How General Francis Ogolla distributed his wealth

Barely a year after the late former Chief of Defence Forces of Kenya, General Francis Omondi Ogolla, died in a plane crash, details of his will on the distribution of his estate have emerged.

The will filed on June 3, 2024, by Miller & Company Advocates at the High Court Family Division in Nairobi details how Ogolla intended to distribute his estate, which includes land parcels, vehicles, bank accounts, and investments, among his wife and children.

Written on July 11, 2012, the Will was signed in the presence of two colleagues, Lieutenant Colonel John Njenga and Lieutenant Colonel Stephen Sane.

It states that Ogolla’s estate, valued at approximately Sh150 million be divided among his wife and children.

His wife, Aileen Ogolla, would receive 50 percent of the estate, while their two children, Lorna Achieng Omondi and Joel Rabuku Omondi, would receive 25 percent each.

Additionally, Ogolla left his property along Hatheru Road to his wife, while his Metro Fairview flat property, all his shares in NIC Securities,  and a Luo Bible his mother left him were handed to his daughter Lorna.

On the other hand, Ogolla’s son Joel was allocated a flat, all his parcel of land situated at or near the Siaya Airstrip, together with all developments that were in it.

“To my son Joel Rabuku Omondi, all personal belongings and artifacts. I direct that all my clothing shall be disposed of by burning,” read the will in part.

“Any property not included in this will is to be jointly owned by Joel Rabuku Omondi and Lorna Achieng Omondi. Alternatively, the two may mutually agree on how to share it. To all my relatives, good luck,” he directed.

General Ogolla died on April 18, 2024, alongside nine others, in a helicopter crash in Sindar, Elgeyo-Marakwet County.

According to a report released by the Ministry of Defence on Friday, the Bell UH-1H-II (Huey) helicopter, KAF 1501, experienced a sudden engine malfunction mid-flight, leading to complete power loss.

Eyewitnesses said the aircraft burst into flames after crashing, killing over 8 occupants, including Ogolla. Only one person survived, believed to be a photographer.
