The Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) continued with its streak of embarrassing incidents on Monday November 13, 2023.
In the afternoon, video clips were shared from the airport showing leaking roofs at some of the airport’s terminals as water torrents came through, leaving certain sections flooded.
A video that was shared by financial platform Mwango Capital shows a section of the airport flooded and the check-in area getting battered by rain water that was leaking through the roof.
“At 1630hrs today, 13th November, 2023, one of our team members experienced these unusual conditions at the JKIA. Perhaps the management at KAA views this as normal and acceptable. We thought it best to bring it to the public’s attention for action. We should be better than this,” said Mwango.

These videos saw the JKIA airport once again trend on Twitter as Kenyans were baffled at the rate of deterioration the airport has been experiencing.
Less than one week ago, the airport was on the spotlight again after travellers complained that their luggage had gotten wet because the facility has no canopies and shelters for travelers during rainy seasons.

There were also complaints about the airport’s drainage system. Roads and Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen said that the Kenya Airports Authority will provide canopies at the airport to cover passengers when it rains and will work with the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) to improve drainage.
