25 car models Kenyan insurer has banned from comprehensive insurance

Occidental Insurance has stopped offering comprehensive insurance to these 25 car models. This follows what the insurer termed as high cost and unavailability of spare parts for the vehicles.

The vehicles that have been removed from the insurance package range from Toyotas to Mazdas.

Currently, vehicles under comprehensive covers are repaired by their insurance providers in case of an accident.

In a statement released on Thursday, Occidental Insurance Senior Underwriting Officer David Mankone said that the vehicles affected by the move would be moved to Third Party Insurance upon renewal of their covers.

“We hereby wish to enlighten you that there exits some vehicles whose spare parts have becomes rare and/are absolute and have therefore proven to be a challenge when settling claims. We will therefore not underwrite these kinds of vehicles to ensure smooth running of business and excellent client experience,” he said.

“Further, please note that all the vehicles covered on comprehensive basis shall be converted to Third Party only upon renewal and kindly adhere to same. All comprehensive vehicles must be up to 15 years of age for private vehicles and 12 years for commercial vehicles,” the statement said.
