10-minute paperless car registration, transfer starts today

The paperless system the National Transport Safety Authority (NTSA) has introduced for the registration and transfer of motor vehicles will begin today.
This follows successful piloting among motorcycle dealers, which has been running since January when 6,792 boda bodas were registered.
The system dubbed Transport Infrastructure Management System (TIMS) was set up at a cost of up to Sh. 800 million.

The registration of cars under the Transport Infrastructure Management System will begin with car dealers before moving on to individual car owners.

“Registration of new motor vehicles will begin today (Monday) and we will start with dealers. Afterwards, all other individual vehicle registrations will be opened. Once registration of new vehicles is in full gear, registration for second-hand cars will start,” says Mr. Fernando Wangila, the chief of ICT at NTSA.
