Kenya National Police DT SACCO joined the world in marking global celebrations for the girl child in Gilgil with over 1,000 international delegates drawn from 45 countries worldwide visiting Utumishi Primary and Secondary schools.
The delegation had come to see the impact Police DT SACCO has had on the community and a commemorative tree planting exercise led by cooperatives CS Wycliffe Oparanya and Police Sacco Chair David Mategwa.
With the Kenya Police DT SACCO commitment to ensuring that girls are seen and provided with adequate resources to thrive, they showcased the recently constructed nine classrooms for use by the students at Utumishi Girls.
Wycliffe Oparanya commended the DT SACCO for its contributions to girls’ education and environmental sustainability.
He emphasized the importance of cooperatives in driving economic development and addressing pressing social and environmental challenges.
“The DT SACCO’s dedication to empowering girls and promoting sustainability is a shining example of the positive impact that cooperatives can have on our communities,” said CS Oparanya.

“I urge other cooperatives to follow their lead and contribute to building a more equitable and sustainable future for all.”
The congregation had converged in Naivasha for a week-long cooperative conference that ended remarkably with the planting of 15,000 trees at Utumishi Schools to mark the signing of the ACCOSCA climate action plan initiative.
In addition to these local initiatives, the DT SACCO has been actively involved in global collaborations to strengthen the cooperative movement.
As a key member of the African Cooperative Savings and Credit Association (ACCOSCA), the SACCO recently hosted a delegation of cooperative leaders from the African-American Credit Union Coalition (AACUC) to foster knowledge exchange and strategic partnerships.
During the visit, the AACUC delegation was given a comprehensive tour of the SACCO’s operations, learning about its innovative service delivery models, commitment to financial inclusion, and community development initiatives.
The delegation was particularly impressed by the SACCO’s efforts to leverage technology to enhance member experience and improve operational efficiency.
“We are honored to welcome our colleagues from the AACUC to Kenya and to share our experiences as a leading cooperative in the region,” said Solomon Atsiaya, CEO of the DT SACCO.
“This visit underscores the importance of global collaboration and knowledge sharing within the cooperative movement. By working together, we can create a more sustainable and equitable future for all.”
The DT SACCO’s commitment to sustainability and community development demonstrates its leadership in the cooperative movement and its ability to create a positive impact both locally and globally.
