Review of Renault KWID new 25 km/l car launched in Kenya

Simba Corporation Ltd has joined the race for the small car market by launching a new model called the Renault KWID. The brand new KWID will retail at Sh1.2 million. Simba corporation will also be leasing the vehicle, charging Sh1,000 a day for those who want to drive around.

The new car comes with an ultra-light steering that helps manoeuvre it through tight city spaces and while parking, but when you’re doing highway speeds, you need to keep correcting it constantly. It gets a bit tiring. That said, at higher speeds, the Kwid feels much more stable than other small cars.

The Kwid has a nice-looking thing especially with the SUV-inspired design and overall styling. Sharp creases on the hood give it a muscular look. The cladding along the sides and around the back reinforces that appearance.

The KWID has a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) inspired design, and an 800cc three-cylinder petrol engine. The rear suspension is softly-sprung. The downside of the soft suspension and high ground clearance of 180mm is the body roll. There’s plenty of it, more than what you’d expect from a car this size.

It also boasts a fuel efficiency of up to 25.17 kilometres per litre, and comes with a three year warranty. “Kenyans are used to second hand vehicles from Japan, that’s why we have decided to launch this model which is cheap and can also be leased out,” Simba Corp Chief Commercial Officer Paul Chaggar said Thursday during the unveiling at the Ngong racecourse.
