I quit! Wilson Sossion resigns as KNUT secretary general

Sossion Quits KNUT: Nominated member of parliament Wilson Sossion has resigned as the Secretary General of the Kenya National Union of Teachers. His resignation came days to the KNUT national elections.

Sossion said that his position at KNUT was no longer tenable. He argued that the government had been frustrating his leadership and now he would be focusing on his legislative work in parliament.

Sossion has been having conflicts with the Teachers Service Commission. The confrontations have left teachers under KNUT in a disadvantaged position with KNUT losing hundreds of teachers to the rival KUPPET.

Sossion was set to face off with KNUT’s acting national chairman, Mr. Collins Oyuu, with odds of winning against him. Days to the elections, he had alleged that Oyuu was being favoured by the national government. He had also claimed that the teachers union was considering appointing the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to preside over the polls. Sossion was holding the Secretary general position at KNUT even though he had been de-gazetted as a teacher.

In 2017, Sossion was nominated to parliament by the Orange Democratic Movement. It remains to be seen if he will be vying for a political position in the 2022 General Elections. Sossion Quits KNUT.
