Popular matatu operator Super Metro is under public scrutiny following a recent incident that has sparked outrage. Reports allege that a passenger was thrown from a moving vehicle, registration plate KDL 125N, leading to their tragic death.

On March 12th, the SACCO issued a statement condemning the incident and confirming that the crew had been suspended as investigations got underway.

“We are deeply saddened by the tragic incident involving one of the buses operating under our company’s name. Our thoughts and condolences go out to the victim’s family and loved ones during this difficult time,” the company wrote.

“While the matter is under investigation, we want to assure everyone that we take safety rigorously. We do not condone reckless behaviour, and as a precautionary measure, the crew involved in this incident has been suspended pending further investigation.”

According to unconfirmed reports, the incident took place a few days ago in Kahawa Wendani. Allegedly, a man named Gilbert boarded the SACCO’s matatu with only Sh50 after a long day of work.

A tussle broke out inside the matatu between the tout and the passenger. The tout insisted on the full fare of Sh80, while Gilbert pleaded for leniency, offering the only Sh50 he had.

Frustrated by Gilbert’s refusal to comply, the tout is said to have opened the vehicle’s door and forcefully ejected him onto the cold hard tarmac while the bus was fast moving.

A postmortem report later confirmed that Gilbert died on the spot due to multiple fractures, including broken legs, ribs, and hands.

Kenyans have voiced their outrage at the matatu SACCO, which operates in Nairobi and surrounding areas like Kiambu and Kajiado counties. Super Metro has built a loyal customer base over the years for its orderliness and efficiency,

In response to the incident, Super Metro has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining high standards and pledged full cooperation with authorities during the investigation.

 “We understand that the public is angry, and rightfully so. No one should lose their life in such a senseless manner. At Supermetro, we hold the sanctity of human life as a core value guiding our actions and decisions,” Metro expressed.

“We will fully cooperate with authorities to ensure justice is served. Moving forward, we are reinforcing strict safety protocols & training to prevent such tragedies,” Metro added.
