Ukur Yatani: How I made Sh. 295mn wealth and how much I earn as CS

Ukur Yatani Wealth: Ukur Yatani is the former Marsabit Governor and the former cabinet secretary at the Ministry of Labour. Today, he is possibly among the few most powerful cabinet secretaries in Kenya. He occupies the prestigious and conspicuous ministry of finance known as the National Treasury.

Whilst he handles Kenya’s trillions, many people have wondered what the man who replaced former National Treasury cabinet secretary Henry Rotich is worth.

According to wealth declaration reports at parliament, Mr. Yatani has a net worth of Sh 295 million. Mr. Yatani has largely kept details of how he made this wealth scanty, only revealing that he built the wealth from his investments in transport businesses, real estate, and moveable assets.

Mr. Yatani also says that he has made a considerable chunk of money from his livestock ventures. Nonetheless, it goes without saying that having a long political career, during which he has served as a county governor, Mr. Yatani owes a sizeable percentage of his wealth to his political career.

As a cabinet secretary, Mr. Yatani takes home a monthly salary of Sh. 646,000. He previously earned a salary of Sh. 924,000 per month before the coronavirus scourge hit Kenya.
