Alex Mutitu experienced discomfort when he was arrested in Naivasha last year and spent several few hours he spent at the police station got him thinking about an idea that would help others in his situation.
“I was arrested on my way to Nakuru for a traffic offence. I could not immediately raise the Sh25,000 fine and ended up staying in a police cell for close to eight hours. I was released after borrowing the money from family and friends,” says Alex.
Having a first-hand experience on A what it means to have freedom curtailed, Alex to came up with an app hours in custody. The out to help others avert the same predicament. Alex teamed up with his friends, Mike Kihia and Felix Ngari to form a company called Napex Solutions. They are the creators of BailOutBuddy, a mobile application that bails out people arrested for traffi c offences by paying their fi ne.
According to the 32-year-old, the app is designed as an insurance cover where people pay premiums and are assured that someone will come to their rescue incase they are arrested.
The application is meant to bridge the gap between the time someone is arrested and when they leave the cell, to save users the inconvenience of trying to raise bail while behind bars.
“In my case, for instance, I had to spend a night in Nakuru that day, which I hadn’t planned. This app will save others from such unanticipated incidences,” adds Alex, who has a background in actuarial science from Digital Advisory Learning Centre (DALC).
Since the app was introduced four months ago it has elicited interest hitting 1,000 downloads so far and getting 38 registered users. The app can be downloaded from Google Play Store and gives users access to other services ranging from taxis, ambulances, towing trucks, firefighters to the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) Act and contacts for lawyers, doctors and mechanics.
