Betty Kyallo quits KTN for rival station

Betty Kyallo Quits KTN: Popular news anchor Betty Kyallo has resigned from the Standard Group’s KTN. According to reports, Ms. Kyallo is now expected to join K24, which is owned by MediaMax.

“At K24, Betty is expected to headline news anchoring at the fledgling television station. Her entry is likely to cause some ripples at DSM Place, where reforms instigated by new editor in chief Peter Opondo have touched tension buttons,” says a report on her departure that appeared in a local media news site.

This is the latest switch in the media industry. Over the recent few months, popular journalists have been getting poached by rival stations. Among the top beneficiaries have been the Royal Media Services (RMS) whose television station Citizen Tv now boasts of the top selection of presenters, and the BBC.

On the opposite extreme, KTN and Nation Media Group’s NTV have been the hardest hit.

Ms. Kyallo is expected to boost K24’s ratings given her huge fan base and presentation style that has endeared her to thousands of viewers.

“Her flexible style of switching into sheng or Kiswahili when necessary during interview sessions has endeared her to viewers turned off by the ubiquitous English-only spitting anchors,” her style is reviewed.
