Family Bank has suspended afternoon tea in all its branches in a move it terms as a cost-cutting measure.

In a memo from the bank’s procurement and logistics department, the tea suspension took effect on Tuesday August 22.

The memo yesterday found its way to social media where the bank became the butt of jokes.

“Beginning today we have suspended company sponsored afternoon tea and only morning tea will be served,” said procurement and logistics officer Muchane Ndungu.

“We have had to make some very hard choices. We have been forced to re-look every one of our cost lines and re-evaluate where we can make further reductions to restore the bank back to profitability.”

Ndungu said the decision was not taken lightly and that it followed “a lot of thought and debate”.

Family Bank’s net profit for 12 months through December last year fell by 82.21 per cent year-on-year.

The bank further posted a half year loss of Sh. 492 million early this month.
