Fuel shortage is back: Long lines, no fuel reported in many parts

Fuel shortage is back. Long lines and zero fuel are being reported in many parts of the country. This is barely a week after the government announced that normal fuel supply to fuel stations had resumed.

The shortage is being widely witnessed in the Western region in in Kisumu, Kakamega, Busia, Migori and Homa Bay. Parts of North Rift have also been reported as experiencing fuel shortage, with shortages also reported in Bomet County.

In lower Eastern, long lines are still being witnessed in major towns such as Kitui. The shortages have created extreme demand for the commodity, and discreetly pushed prices for the commodity to highs of Sh. 200 to Sh. 250 per litre.

In the Western region, dealers blamed the Kenya Pipeline Company depot in Kisumu, saying it had delayed releasing adequate supplies to the market.

In the three weeks to April 14, 2022, Kenya witnessed its worst ever fuel shortage crisis after the government failed to pay oil marketers billions of money for selling fuel at loss under a  subsidy program.
