Many Kenyans have been receiving phone calls from strange international calls from numbers they are not familiar with.
The strange international calls come from phone numbers which have zip codes of Syria, Switzerland, Guinea, Turkey among others were first highlighted by Facebook and Twitter users.
A spot check has revealed that these strange international calls will attract heavy penalties on your money when picked or dialed back.
Eric Gichimu, who has been getting missed calls from the prefix +554 told Bizna Kenya that he lost Sh. 100 after dialing the number back to ask who was calling him.
“I had just recharged my phone but within a minute, I got a beep that my credit had hone low. This was abnormally more costly than ordinary international calls,” he says.
It is therefore advised that you don’t pick up any such calls to avoid being charged for services you aren’t privy to.
Other numbers being used include prefixes such as +963 and +417
“Do not pick up unless you are familiar with an international contact. International fraudsters have gone a notch higher in the extortion schemes and this is one of their latest inventions,” cautions Eunice Chebet, an Cyber Crime expert.
