Matatu driver, tout help expectant woman deliver in PSV, offer free ride to hospital

A matatu driver and his tout have become the talk of the town after they helped a woman safely deliver her baby while on the road in their 14-seater matatu.

What was expected to be just another trip along Mombasa Road turned into an unprecedented situation for Jonnie Musau, the matatu driver, and his tout when a woman went into labour during their journey.

Both Jonnie and his tout had to pause their regular duties to help the woman safely deliver her baby and then take her to the hospital. His actions have earned him admiration and recognition from Kenyans, who praised his decision-making skills.

In his narration, Musau shared that he picked up the expectant woman during his usual route, noticing that she was walking to a distant medical facility where she planned to give birth.

As they were transporting passengers near Samala in Makueni County, Musau felt empathetic and decided to give her a free ride to her destination.

While they were still several kilometres from the hospital, the woman suddenly went into labour. Jonnie Musau had to turn off the engine, clear the vehicle, and help the woman deliver the baby.

Assisted by his tout, they took charge of the situation and helped with delivering the baby before quickly rushing her to Machakos Level 5 Hospital for further care.

Word of their kindness quickly spread among Kenyans, who not only praised them but also offered monetary donations and gifts. Among the gifts they received were two new pairs of shoes.
