Nakumatt Supermarket has closed yet another branch in Nairobi. The troubled retailer has shut down its Nakumatt NextGen branch which is situated along Mombasa Road.
Nakumatt announced the closure in a notice that was pinned outside the closed supermarket.
The closed branch was opened barely nine months ago and was meant to tap customers from South B and South C, as well as travelers along Mombasa Road.
Over the past few months, Nakumatt has been facing mounting cash problems. The retailer is currently unable to efficiently pay its workers.
Many of its shelves are also empty as suppliers flee from a retailer laden with debts.
Its debts in are currently estimated to stand at about Sh. 30 billion.
Nakumatt has failed to attract a strategic investor who can pump in a relief of Sh. 7 billion.
