Jacob Zuma: I am yet to marry my last wife!
South Africa’s President Jacob Zuma has hinted he may be ready to take a fifth wife to accompany him through old age, the daily newspaper The Star said Wednesday.
During a visit to a Durban township Tuesday in KwaZulu-Natal, the 72-year-old said in Zulu “Angakayakhi indlu yokugugela… laba ngisabathathile nje” (I do have wives but I’m yet to marry my last one).
The crowd, most of them elderly, laughed and cheered, The Star said.
Jacob Zuma, who on Sunday said he was in “perfect condition” after a stay in hospital in June, had earlier given a speech about the need to respect and tend for older people.
Sihawu Ngubane, a professor at KwaZulu-Natal University, was quoted by the newspaper as saying it was fairly standard among Zulu people for a man who practises polygamy to take a last wife for his last years, sometimes the younger sister of one of his wives.
“They call the last wife ‘indlu yokugugela’ (the home in which I will age in) because the responsibility of looking after the husband in their old age predominantly lies with the junior wife, who is often younger than the other wives and more agile in case there is an emergency,” Jacob Zuma said.
Jacob Zuma, who has around 20 children, has married six times but currently has four wives on the state’s budget, despite criticism from some tax-payers.
Why men who love zealously never completely love again
It was not the first time that Douglas Mwangi was falling in love. Unlike his previous two relationships though, it was the first time that he was falling in love so completely.
“Elizabeth was irresistibly beautiful,” he says. “I had pursued her for months without success.”
He couldn’t be happier when she finally accepted to date him. “I gave my heart to her, and saw her more as a wife than a casual girlfriend.”
Douglas went out of his way to demonstrate his love by supporting her ailing boutique two months after they started dating.
“At that time, it didn’t occur to me that perhaps it was too early to start reaching for my ATM card,” he says with a tinge of regret.
Contrary to what he expected after his ‘sweet gesture’, Elizabeth began to complain that he was snoopy.
“I frequented her workplace to see how the business was doing but she thought I was suspecting her of infidelity,” he says.
Douglas admits that he sometimes felt insecure, which prompted his benevolence in a bid to secure his place in her heart. He apologised for his actions and after much pleading Elizabeth forgave him.
However, she had discovered a secret: Douglas was helplessly in love with her, and could take whatever she threw at his feet.
In their third month together, she began to have too many weekend trips. He suspected that she was seeing someone else, but didn’t have the courage to confront her.
To make matters worse, Elizabeth began to misuse the money he pumped into her business. Eventually, he found out that she was using the money to finance her lover’s lifestyle and their weekend outings.
Ironically, Douglas directed his anger at Elizabeth’s side dish.
“I couldn’t see that she was the one on the wrong,” he admits.
Humiliated
The break up that followed left Douglas depressed and financially drained. He thought there could never be another like her, so he humiliated himself trying to pursue her.
Indeed, four months later, when Elizabeth broke up with her other boyfriend, Douglas almost took her back.
“I nearly welcomed her back into my life. It took my close friends and a psychologist I was seeing to dissuade me.”
Looking back, Douglas says that his biggest error was not loving Elizabeth but loving her completely: “If I hadn’t, I could have managed to redeem myself earlier.”
Loving a woman so completely is something that men fear doing. According to some men that we spoke to, a man just doesn’t give his heart to a woman, regardless of the intensity of their relationship.
According to Joseph Mwathi, 28, a man only gives his heart at his own peril.
“You should never love a woman with all your heart, whether she has earned it or not,” he cautions. “There is nothing like a guarantee of eternity in a relationship.”
Joseph explains that in his early dating years, he would fall hard for every girlfriend. In turn, the women treated him as they pleased. When each of the relationships ended, he found himself battling desperation and low self-esteem.
“My zealousness was hardly valued or reciprocated,” he says.
Nelson Nderitu, an educationist, attests to this: “One can only value what they’ve earned and not what has been handed to them on a silver platter.”
He says an emotional and financial breakdown taught him a never to be forgotten lesson on falling in love.
“I loved Jane and was overly eager to keep her,” Nelson says. “She took advantage of this, to the extent of seeing other men while I played the good guy, paying her college fees and waiting for her to come to her senses.”
But nothing could stop Jane from eventually leaving. His disappointment was so severe that he had to see a psychologist.
“I was totally messed up; I felt suicidal,” he confides. “And all because I had given my heart, and lost the guard that could have upheld me in that eventuality.”
Since then, he does not dare to love a woman with his heart.
“It doesn’t mean that I don’t love you or that I love you less. It is only a precautionary measure that men take.”
Best formula
But Joseph Kariuki sees it differently.
“As much as men don’t give their hearts easily, it all boils down to the woman the heart is being given to,” he says. “I once gave my heart and was hurt. And like any other man, I had to be cautious the next time I started a relationship. But after meeting my wife, I did not hesitate to try again, and it worked out. This doesn’t mean that we do not have our own ups and downs, but that we respect and value each other’s emotions.”
This is something that Nahashon Muna wouldn’t dare to risk.
“Men love with their eyes. Love is just a means to their end,” he says. “It is the accepted order and should remain that way. There are certain possessions that a man shouldn’t lose, and the heart is one of them.”
Apparently, men do not handle rejection or break ups well, and this is the best formula for surviving emotional hurt. It is also the engine that sometimes leads them sexually astray.
How NSE is wooing investors
Kenya is to have its derivatives market, raising the profile of the country as one of the largest financial hubs in sub-Saharan Africa.
This comes as the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) announced that it had received the green light to set up and operate a derivatives exchange from the Capital Markets Authority. Kenya now follows security exchanges in the continent’s power houses Nigeria and South Africa in setting up the investment vehicles.
“Derivatives are among the most affordable and convenient means companies can cushion themselves against interest rates fluctuations, exchange rate volatility and commodity prices,” said NSE Chairman Eddy Njoroge.
“The establishment of a derivatives market is a step towards growing the NSE brand and shareholder value and is in line with Kenya’s goal of deepening our capital markets and making Nairobi the financial services hub of East Africa.”
Kenya has been trying for a long, time to set up a derivatives market but the process has been hampered by administrative and legal concerns.
The NSE said this new development will see investors invited to trade in a myriad of investment vehicles at the same time take a part in the country’s agricultural sector which accounts for the largest value of Kenya’s gross domestic product.
“The Nairobi Securities Exchange will establish a globally competitive derivatives exchange that will enable spot and futures trading of multi-asset classes including equities, currency, interest rate products as well as varied forms of agricultural commodities contracts,” stated acting Chief Executive Andrew Wachira.
“The Exchange has invested in the development of the derivatives market to ensure that it will meet global standards including mechanisms for trading, clearing and settlement of the instruments traded.”
Why he just won’t marry you
Chris Hart: Chances are, he would already have told you if he doesn’t fancy marriage… you just need to hear it when it happens.
It happens all the time. You’re with a really great guy but if only he would commit… So how long do you wait? Or are you just wasting your time?
You might be, especially if he’s the wrong age. Too young, and the chances that he’ll marry you are pretty small. Too old, and he’s heading towards becoming a permanent bachelor.
Especially if he says he likes coming and going as he pleases and answering to no-one.
Sure, he enjoys your company, but if his priorities are his friends, his work, or his interests, then he’s not thinking of marriage any time soon. What other reasons might make a man reluctant to commit? Loads, I’m afraid!
LOVE ADDICTS
Maybe he’s thinking that he’ll be ready someday, and you’ll be the one.
But right now he’s enjoying the single life too much. Some men are addicted to falling in love. All the flirting and the chance to tell their story to fresh ears. But once that’s over they’re quickly bored—watch out for too many short relationships.
Or maybe he’s not got over an ex. Or maybe he wants to get married—but not to you. You’re an enjoyable part of his life but he knows you’re not the one.
And so, to put it bluntly, you’ll do until something better comes along.
Or maybe there’s two of you, and he hasn’t decided who to choose.
Or maybe he knows he doesn’t have to commit to you to keep you. He isn’t afraid of losing you, so why should he commit when he’s getting everything he wants already?
SAVING TIME
So how can you avoid wasting your time like this? Start by listening to what your guy says—and believe him! Chances are he’s already told you everything you need to know but you didn’t hear.
And watch what he does. A guy who’s ready to commit will be there for you and is making plans for your future together. No sign of that? Then he wants to stay single.
If he doesn’t want to talk about the future, that’s another bad sign. If he insists it’s a timing issue, agree something reasonable—but keep living your own life! And if the time limit goes by? Move on.
Think about your own behaviour. Are you suffocating him? Or too dependent? Always criticising? Probably, you think of marriage as changing your life.
Your guy probably wants to change as little as he can. So let him know you aren’t taking over his life.
Don’t make him do too much for you or feel that you’re too costly.
Remember too, that no matter what they say, men are always insecure about their sexual desirability. Your man will be more likely to commit if he feels that you think he’s the most attractive man in the world.
And insist that he’s faithful, right from the start. In effect, you’re also giving him the reassurance that you’ll also be faithful to him.
Millie Odhiambo removed her pants; I didn’t strip or punch her – Moses Kuria
Evelyne Musambi: Controversial Member of Parliament Moses Kuria has denied claims that he stripped and boxed fellow legislator Millie Odhiambo in the face.
Through her Facebook account, Millie Odhiambo had singled out Mr Kuria as one of her assaulters stating: “I was boxed in the eye by Moses Kuria…”
But reached on phone, the Gatundu MP denied ever punching Millie, instead saying he only blocked her from assaulting Deputy Speaker Joyce Laboso.
“She came attacking the Deputy Speaker and I considered it my duty to block her. I did not hit her and if she has any evidence of blows hurled at her she can present it,” said Mr Kuria.
Millie Odhiambo also had posted a photo of her swollen face on Facebook. But Mr Kuria maintained that no one stripped the Mbita legislator -or attempted to- as she claimed.
“She is the one who actually removed her panty and threw it on the floor of the House. She was behaving like a mad woman saying how Luo women are not embarrassed of their nakedness” said an irritated Kuria.
Millie Odhiambo in her Facebook post had stated that she prides in her nakedness and she is fearfully and wonderfully made.
“When they tried to undress me I completed the process for them…I cannot and will not be intimidated using my sexuality,” reads her post in part.
The recently elected MP for Gatundu South added that he had no apologies for blocking Millie Odhiambo from attacking the Deputy Speaker.
“The Deputy Speaker is a woman like Millie Odhiambo and I have no regrets for protecting a woman from being attacked by fellow women in the house,” he said.
Mr Kuria stated that the altercation took place at the moment when Homabay’s Gladys Wanga came forward and allegedly poured water on Ms Laboso.
He added that at that moment he blocked them from attacking her but later on towards the end of the putting of questions by the speaker, Millie removed her inner wear.
Millie was among the opposition MPs who were calling for the postponement of the debate on the contentious Security Laws Bill.
By the time the live feed from parliament went off, she could be seen at the front near where the Speaker was sitting while shouting a long and consistent “nay” when the question on different clauses to be included in the bill were being put.
Moses Kuria: why I slapped Millie Odhiambo in parliament yesterday
Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria has said that he slapped Mbita MP Millie Odhiambo because she assaulted Joyce Laboso who is the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly.
Kuria, in a phone interview with Classic FM on Friday morning, however dismissed allegations by Odhiambo that she was stripped at Parliament amid the chaos over the Security Bill on Thursday.
“That woman is mad. Millie is mad. She just went there and stripped. Nobody tried to undress her. She undressed herself. She was undressing there and she had very smelly underpants and she was screaming like a mad woman all the time. I think she was on drugs or something,” Kuria said.
But Odhiambo in a post recounting the incident on her Facebook page says:
“I was boxed in the eye by Moses Kuria as one permanent drunk pulled my panty and another two pulled up my dress. But I am not of the’ ayayayaya, you slapped me fame’!”
In the post that has been widely shared and commented on, Odhiambo claims that she was not cowed by Kuria and other unnamed MPs’ attempts to strip her.
“Moses Kuria amejua why am MP Mbita elected and not appointed. Plus learn, we pride as a people in nakedness na wamejua (sic).
“When they tried to undress me I completed the process for them. I am fearfully and wonderfully made and have no embarrassment over my body. I cannot and will not be intimidated using my sexuality,” she says.
Kuria concluded his interview by saying “If I was to strip her, I would have better choices.”
The chaos in the National Assembly as MPs met for a special sitting on the contentious Security Bill included the tearing of order papers, bado mapambano chants and singing.
Homa Bay MP Gladys Wanga was also caught on camera pouring water on Laboso.
Parliament passed Security Laws (Amendment) Bill 2014 and also approved Joseph Nkaissery’s nomination as Interior Cabinet Secretary despite the chaos.
The Bill is now expected to be assented into law and Nkaissery sworn in by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Millie Odhiambo: Jubilee MPs tried to undress me in parliament but I completed the process for them!!
Cord’s Mbita MP Millie Odhiambo has sensationally claimed that Jubilee MPs tried to undress her in parliament yesterday. She further added that when the MPs attempted to undress her, she completed the process for them!!
In a post on her Facebook wall https://www.facebook.com/millie.mabona?fref=ts&ref=br_tf Ms. Millie Odhiambo claimed: “I was boxed in the eye by Moses Kuria as one permanent drunk pulled my panty and another two pulled up my dress. But I am not of the “Ayayayaya you slapped me fame!” Moses Kuria amejua why am MP Mbita elected and not appointed. Plus learn, we pride as a people in nakedness Na wamejua. When they tried to undress me I completed the process for them. I am fearfully and wonderfully made and have no embarrassment over my body. I cannot and will not be intimidated using my sexuality. Anyar gi Mboya, nyakwar nyobiero, nyamin Captain. Ok unyala.”
Ms. Millie Odhiambo further added: “My security was disarmed, manhandled and thrown in the cells for a while. Muturi started off the session by reading us the riot act and threatening to send us home for re-elections. We tell him “Go ahead”. Jubilee Mps went and physically attacked senators Muthama, Orengo, Khalwale, Wetangula and Ongera at the public gallery and we repulsed them. We managed a stalemate whole morning. Afternoon they came back better prepared. Many Mps beaten up…. One MP had even told us they have to kill one of us. He is ordinarily my friend. I excuse the temporary madness. CORD MPs am so proud of you. If you bear any number 2 to your name. The joke is on you.”
Mistreatment of workers at Apple supplier’s factories
BBc has just released a documentary that covers the unbearable working conditions in Apples factories. The video and footage was aired from inside the Pegatron and Foxconn factories.
BBC has gone a step further by following the Apple parts supply chain back to the source, where the BBC found children digging for tin in mud pits in Bangka, Indonesia. They are at constant risk of being buried in landslides as the walls of the makeshift opencast mines are hosed in order to sheath off more mud and expose more tin ore for iPhone parts.
There is plenty of footage of exhausted workers falling sleep at their posts in the factory:
The BBC says the factory has faked an audit trail of the paperwork so it will look as if all the workers agreed to work nights.
This factory worker is warning a colleague not to fall asleep in case he slumps into a machine and electrocutes himself.
The BBC also found:
• 12 people living in each factory dorm room when the rules call for only eight to a room.
• Bullying from factory managers.
• Workers falling asleep standing up because they’re all on 12 hour shifts.
• Workers too exhausted to eat.
• One worker complaining he was so exhausted from making iPhones that he would fall asleep before reaching the bathroom at the end of the day.
Nairobi Traffic Jams Driving shoppers Online
Traffic jam, Nairobi’s never ending menace; that and the obvious insecurity.
While most of the roads in the capital city have remained in a similar state as of independence, the number of motorists has continued to increase to over 900,000 in Nairobi alone and the construction of the Thika Superhighway meant to ease traffic congestion was actually a catalyst in disguise as more people rushed to buy vehicles.
This menace attracted e-commerce companies such as JUMIA to Kenya. Promising an easy, safe and convenient shopping experience, customers are now just a mouse-click away from having their delivery right at their door.
Parinaz Firozi, MD JUMIA Kenya, notes, “Our Nairobi hub is the biggest, the growth is fuelled by many factors but traffic is a major catalyst and the reason why most residents prefer to shop online.”
“Most people shop between 6:00 AM and 9:00 AM on mobile phones and tablets, this time they are certainly stuck in traffic on their way to work. The numbers go down slightly and rise massively over lunch hour until 2:00 PM, most orders are placed via desktops and laptops at this time,” adds Firozi.
Antony Njau, a student at Multimedia University, Ongata Rongai, notes, “Online shopping helps me save a lot of time that I use for studying, I used to shop on Amazon but since JUMIA launched, am their happy customer.”
Lisa Anita an expatriate from the USA shares, “Traffic is so bad on Thika road that I have to leave the house at 5:30 AM to avoid it. If I want to buy something, I prefer to shop online at my convenience, since e-commerce companies like JUMIA also deliver to the office and payment is simply made on delivery.”
The recent entry of Kaymu to rival OLX is a major indication that more online retailers are on their way to Kenya as the government continues to devise ways of tackling traffic jams, estimated to cost the second fastest growing commercial hub in Africa over KSh. 50 million per day.
