Safaricom to offer Data, plus-data plan with a Personal Accident cover

Safaricom (NSE: SCOM) has partnered with Britam to introduce an affordable data plan dubbed Data Plus, which offers a daily personal accident cover and data and free Google Maps for as little as KES 25 daily. The Personal Accident covers medical expenses, permanent disability and funeral expenses arising from an accident.

The introduction of Data Plus will see Safaricom customers enjoy a selection of four daily data bundles that are valid for 24 hours between KES 25 and KES 150. For only KES 25 daily, a customer will enjoy a 100MB bundle with a daily insurance benefit of KES 15,000 for medical expenses, KES 50,000 for accidental permanent total disability and KES 50,000 for funeral expenses in case of accidental death.

For KES 55 daily, the plan includes a 300MB bundle paired with a daily insurance benefit of KES 15,000 for medical expenses, KES 50,000 for accidental permanent total disability, and KES 50,000 for funeral expenses in case of accidental death.

For KES 110 daily, customers can access the 1GB data bundle, complemented by a daily insurance benefit of KES 30,000 for medical expenses, KES 100,000 for accidental permanent total disability, and KES 100,000 for funeral expenses in case of accidental death.

Customers with more data demands can access the 1.8GB data bundle available for KES 150 daily, including an insurance benefit of KES 30,000 for medical expenses, KES 100,000 for accidental permanent total disability, and KES 100,000 for funeral expenses in case of accidental death.

Data Plus will be available for all prepay, hybrid, and post-pay customers. Customers can access the bundles and the personal accident cover via the Safaricom App or USSD *544#. Under option 9 – Data Plus, select their preferred bundle and pay via Airtime or M-PESA. They will then receive a notification from Britam confirming the cover.

The claims process for the insurance cover is hassle-free. Customers can initiate a claim via the USSD *544# under option 9 – Data Plus and select option 5 – make a claim. Alternatively, customers can submit claims through Britam’s WhatsApp chatbot on 0793304927.

All valid claims will be processed within five working days upon receipt of all necessary documentation, with benefits disbursed to the mobile number linked to the bundle. The Accidental Death benefit will be paid to the designated beneficiary.
