Safaricom shareholders to get Sh. 1.10 per share dividends

Safaricom shareholders will be paid Sh. 1.10 per share dividends. This is after the giant telecommunications firm posted a net profit of Sh. 55.3 billion.

Safaricom Chief Finance Officer (CFO) Sateesh Kamath said the board had recommended Safaricom dividends of Sh. 44.1 billion, an increase of 13.5 per cent form the previous year.

Safaricom announced that its net profit for the year ended March 2018 grew to Sh. 55.3 billion, compared to Sh. 48.4 billion the year before on the back of M-Pesa and data revenues.

This represented a 14.3 per cent growth of its full-year after-tax earnings. M-Pesa revenue grew 14.2 per cent to Sh. 62.9 billion while mobile data was up 24 per cent to Sh. 36.4 billion in the period.

The financial results also saw the return of CEO Bob Collymore who announced through a video that he will be returning to the country soon.
